Responsibilities

  • Arrange health surveillance and ensure assessments and first aid risk assessments are completed.
  • Work with Operations to manage vibration exposure in line with legislation and health advice.
  • Lead in-house training with managers and employees about HSEQ issues and risks.
  • Assist line managers to identify training needs and deliver training programmes as appropriate.
  • Undertake new start HSEQ inductions and contribute to annual HSEQ objectives.
  • Assist with audits, incidents recording, investigations, and reporting for managers.

Education

NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent
Internal auditor
Knowledge of Aviation legislation / Norwegian requirements (advantageous)

Job title: HSEQ Advisor
Reporting line: HSEQ Manager, UK and Aviation Services
Location: Aberdeen
Position Grade: G
Principal Accountabilities
  • Keep up to date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all legislation and any developments that affect the Company’s activities.
  • Maintain legal registers (health and safety, and environmental).
  • Arrange health surveillance as defined within the Occupational Health procedure; ensuring display screen equipment assessments are administered, and first aid risk assessments completed.
  • Work with Operations to manage and limit vibration exposure in line with legislation and occupational health advice.
  • Help to source a sufficient number of employees to cover HSEQ related voluntary roles (first aiders, fire wardens, HSEQ representatives, and mental health first aiders).
  • Assist with guidance, advice, and support to line managers regarding workplace assessments and any resulting modifications, or other such measures taken, to assist any member of staff returning to work following illness or injury, ensuring compliance with Disability Discrimination Act legislation.
  • Inclusion in the internal audit plan and participation in customer and third party audits as required.
  • Carry out regular workplace inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented and identify improvements.
  • Lead in-house training with managers and employees about HSEQ issues and risks.
  • Assist line managers to identify training needs to ensure HSEQ compliance; the development and delivery of appropriate training programmes where appropriate; and the evaluation of training by external providers.
  • Undertake new start HSEQ inductions.
  • Help to achieve annual HSEQ objectives as set out by the HSEQ Manager.
  • Prepare HSEQ information for customer business reviews, supplier questionnaires, and tenders.
  • Advise on a range of specialist areas, e.g. fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery and occupational diseases, discharge consents, licences for prescribed processes, vulnerable workers, lifting operations, forklift truck operations, manual handling, working at height, personal protective equipment, driving, office safety, and the provision of work equipment.
  • Provide advice to line managers, staff, and visitors on arrangements in the event of a fire or other such emergency and communicate emergency response plans.
  • Assist with the maintenance of the document management system for UK Ops and Aviation Services, including the HSEQ manual and master controlled documents registers, and HSEQ SharePoint sites, including registers within, e.g. hazardous substances register, risk assessment register, etc.
  • Collate sustainability information, e.g. waste figures, for the HSEQ Manager to input monthly data into Resource Advisor.
  • Assist managers and leads to formulate and draft procedures, work instructions, and single point lessons to ensure the Company’s compliance with HSEQ practices.
  • Assist managers in determining optimum working practices by supporting the risk assessment process and advising on risk reduction measures.
  • Manage travel risk assessments and site security arrangements to support ongoing operations.
  • Encourage all employees to submit observations (positive, improvement suggestions, maintenance, hazardous condition, at risk behaviour, and near miss).
  • Assist with the recording of all incidents, accidents, non-conformances, complaints, cases of ill health, and environmental incidents, undertake investigations to determine root causes using an established investigation process, utilise the Just Culture decision tree, and make recommendations to avoid recurrence.
  • Help collate records of incidents and accidents and producing reports for managers.
  • Assist line managers to monitor HSEQ compliance and performance of subcontractors on the Company’s premises under permit to work.
  • Work with Stores/Procurement to evaluate, control, monitor, and manage approved suppliers.
  • Arrange, prepare for, and attend the Company’s HSEQ Representative Committee meetings.
  • Provide HSEQ information to facilitate toolbox talks.
  • Provide HSEQ representation at daily Ops calls as required and all other scheduled meetings, e.g. weekly NCR meetings, open observations/overdue actions meetings.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Previous HSEQ experience.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of SharePoint would be advantageous but not essential.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of the risk assessment process .
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Knowledge of Aviation legislation / Norwegian requirements would be advantageous but not essential.
  • NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent (minimum requirement).
  • Internal auditor (minimum requirement).
