Job summary

Great British Energy - Nuclear in Warrington is recruiting a Head of Health, Safety, Environment and Sustainability to set professional HSES standards for the SMR project and lead the HSES function across the program.

The role reports to the SLA Director and will oversee HSES delivery, audits, training, and compliance with ISO 14001/45001, while coordinating with regulatory bodies and the supply chain. Hybrid working with travel to on-site locations is expected.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in HSES management within nuclear/high-hazard industries.
• Strong knowledge of safety and environmental legislation and standards for nuclear.
• Proven leadership of HSES teams on large-scale engineering/construction projects.
• Experience with regulatory bodies (ONR, EA/ NRW).

Responsibilities

• Lead, manage and develop the HSE/S (HSES) function for the SMR project.
• Set and maintain professional standards for HSES; provide guidance on HSES matters.
• Maintain Integrated Management System elements (ISO 14001/45001).
• Oversee HSES professionals across the SMR project and supply chain.
• Ensure compliance with environmental permits and permissions.
• Lead audits and reviews for compliance and conformance.
• Provide management information and reporting on HSES issues.
• Provide Radiation Protection Advisor (RPA) and Radioactive Waste Advisor (RWA) services.
• Deliver the Funded Decommissioning Plan for the SMR Project.
• Develop and deliver HSES training for staff and contractors.
• Accountable for budgets, service provision fees, and contractor oversight.
