Job summary

Saab UK is seeking an experienced HSE Manager to lead health, safety and environmental compliance across the organisation.

You will develop and drive the HSE strategy, conduct audits, provide expert guidance to managers, and ensure regulatory adherence while embedding a positive safety culture. The role demands strong leadership and collaboration within a manufacturing/engineering context.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in a manufacturing/engineering environment.
• Internal auditing experience and oversight of accreditation processes.
• Knowledge of ISO9001, ISO14001 and ISO45001 standards.
• HSE qualification (NEBOSH) and environmental qualification (IEMA).
• Strong motivator with team-building ability and cultural change skills.
• Desirable knowledge of the offshore energy market.

Responsibilities

• Promote a positive HSE culture through leadership, engagement, coaching and communication.
• Manage and continually improve the HSE management system, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, customer and company requirements.
• Deliver the HSE strategy, objectives and improvement plans, monitoring performance and reporting key metrics.
• Provide expert HSE advice and support to managers, employees and project teams.
• Lead HSE training, competency, induction and awareness programmes.
• Conduct and coordinate audits, inspections and compliance assurance activities.
• Lead hazard identification, risk assessment and implementation of effective control measures.
• Support the development of safe systems of work and ensure effective management of operational risks.
• Ensure safe introduction of new products, processes, equipment and facilities, integrating HSE requirements throughout the lifecycle.
• Lead specialist safety programmes, including High Voltage, machinery safety, PUWER, LOTO and ergonomics.
• Ensure offsite, customer-site and field activities are effectively planned, assessed and controlled.
• Manage incident reporting, investigation, root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Lead emergency preparedness arrangements and support occupational health and wellbeing programmes.
• Monitor environmental performance, drive sustainability initiatives and ensure environmental compliance.
• Manage REACH, RoHS and hazardous substance compliance requirements.
• Oversee contractor, supplier and supply chain HSE performance and compliance.
• Support bids, projects and business improvement initiatives to ensure HSE requirements are effectively integrated.
• Act as the point of contact for HSE-related matters with regulators, customers, auditors and other external stakeholders.
