Job summary

Balaena Tyne is seeking an experienced HSE Manager to lead safety culture in a busy marine engineering shipyard. You will build and lead the site HSE team, coach managers and supervisors, and ensure practical safety systems that meet ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.

This hands-on role requires strong technical HSE knowledge and exceptional people leadership to influence subcontractors, trades and visitors, raise standards and keep people safe every day.

Qualifications

• NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification.
• Extensive HSE leadership experience in heavy engineering, marine, or high-risk environments.
• Knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001; ability to translate standards into practical processes.
• Experience with incident investigation, root cause analysis, audits, and environmental management.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the site HSE team, coaching managers and supervisors.
• Influence subcontractors and trades to adopt safer practices.
• Balance compliance with practical on-site problem solving.
• Drive a culture where safety is owned by all and leaders make informed decisions.
• Manage risk in a live shipyard environment with heavy fabrication and activities.
