Job summary

Unknown company in Preston seeks an experienced Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Manager to lead HSE across multiple sites in the scrap metal recycling sector. You will drive safety culture, ensure environmental compliance, and oversee risk management with operations, site managers, and senior leadership.

You will own HSE activities, develop policies, maintain ISO systems, and lead investigations, audits, and training to raise performance and compliance across the business.

Qualifications

• Strong working knowledge of UK health, safety, and environmental legislation.
• Experience conducting incident investigations, risk assessments, and compliance audits.
• Full UK driving licence with willingness to travel between sites.

Responsibilities

• Manage HSE across 3 local sites with risk assessments, accidents, and near misses; hands-on with operatives.
• Develop, implement and maintain HSE policies, procedures and management systems (ISO 9001/14001/45001/50001).
• Lead internal audits and support external inspections by regulatory authorities.
• Provide expert advice and guidance to managers and employees on HSE matters.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance workplace safety and environmental performance.
