Job summary

Hitachi Rail UK Limited in Bristol is seeking an experienced HSE Advisor who is visible on site, influencing safety and partnering with operational teams to embed health, safety and environmental standards.

Reporting to the HSE Manager, you will own site health, safety and environmental activities at the Stoke Gifford depot, delivering training, audits, risk assessments and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Experience in HSE within an engineering, manufacturing or similar complex environment.
• NEBOSH Certificate and a relevant Environmental qualification (e.g. IEMA).
• Working knowledge of ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and environmental permitting.
• Experience as an internal auditor.
• Strong communication skills and the confidence to engage at all levels.
• A practical, solution-focused mindset with high personal standards.
• A collaborative approach and genuine passion for keeping people safe.

Responsibilities

• Champion a proactive, positive HSE culture across the depot.
• Support the development, implementation and maintenance of HSE systems and procedures.
• Leading on risk assessments, investigations and corrective actions.
• Delivering HSE training, briefings and toolbox talks.
• Conducting regular site inspections, audits and safety tours.
• Managing environmental compliance, waste, pollution control and sustainability initiatives.
• Supporting internal audits and maintaining legal and compliance registers.
• Acting as a trusted advisor to managers, engineers and external stakeholders.
• Deputising for the HSE Manager when required.
