Job summary

Hitachi Rail UK Limited is seeking an experienced HSE Advisor to lead on-site health, safety and environmental standards at the Stoke Gifford depot. Reporting to the HSE Manager, you will embed proactive HSE practices, run risk assessments and audits, and partner with operations to drive continuous improvement.

You will bring NEBOSH certification and environmental qualifications, with hands-on auditing experience and strong communication to influence across levels.

Qualifications

• Experience in HSE within an engineering, manufacturing or similar complex environment.
• NEBOSH Certificate and a relevant Environmental qualification (e.g. IEMA)
• Working knowledge of ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and environmental permitting
• Experience as an internal auditor
• Strong communication skills and the confidence to engage at all levels
• A practical, solution‑focused mindset with high personal standards
• A collaborative approach and genuine passion for keeping people safe

Responsibilities

• Championing a proactive, positive HSE culture across the depot
• Supporting the development, implementation and maintenance of HSE systems and procedures
• Leading on risk assessments, investigations and corrective actions
• Delivering HSE training, briefings and toolbox talks
• Conducting regular site inspections, audits and safety tours
• Managing environmental compliance, waste, pollution control and sustainability initiatives
• Supporting internal audits and maintaining legal and compliance registers
• Acting as a trusted advisor to managers, engineers and external stakeholders
• Deputising for the HSE Manager when required
