Job summary

First Choice Staff is seeking an organised HR & Payroll Administrator for a busy manufacturing client in the West Midlands. You will manage weekly and monthly payroll, handle statutory payments and ensure accurate HR records across the full employee lifecycle.

The role demands strong numerical skills, attention to detail and experience with payroll systems. On-site in Birmingham, the position offers exposure to end-to-end HR and payroll activities in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years' experience in an HR and payroll role.
  • Strong end-to-end payroll experience including weekly and monthly payrolls.
  • Knowledge of PAYE, NI, pensions and statutory payments.
  • Experience using HR, payroll and time & attendance systems.
  • Strong Excel, numerical and analytical skills.
  • Excellent organisation skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Good communication skills and the confidence to query incomplete or incorrect information.
  • High level of discretion when handling confidential information.
  • Experience supporting recruitment, onboarding and agency personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Process accurate weekly and monthly payroll, including starters, leavers, salary changes, overtime and adjustments.
  • Handle PAYE, National Insurance, pensions, student loans, attachment orders and SSP/SMP.
  • Check attendance and payroll data, investigate discrepancies and ensure changes are recorded.
  • Prepare payroll reports, reconciliations and payslips; respond to payroll queries.
  • Provide day-to-day HR administration across the employee lifecycle.
  • Complete right-to-work checks and maintain confidential HR records.
  • Coordinate recruitment campaigns: adverts, interviews, offers, onboarding and inductions.
  • Liaise with recruitment agencies and manage agency records.
  • Check agency timesheets and invoices; resolve discrepancies.
  • Support HR policies and employee relations including investigations and absence processes.
  • Prepare HR correspondence, meeting notes and case files.
  • Maintain confidentiality and escalate complex matters to the HR Manager.

HR / Payroll Administrator

We are looking for an organised and detail-focused HR & Payroll Administrator to join our client who is a fast-paced manufacturing business.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working with numbers, systems and people, and who can manage deadlines in a busy environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process accurate weekly and monthly payroll, including starters, leavers, salary changes, overtime, shift premiums and other adjustments.
  • Process PAYE, National Insurance, pensions, student loans, attachment orders and statutory payments, including SSP and SMP.
  • Check attendance and payroll data, investigate discrepancies and ensure all changes are authorised and accurately recorded.
  • Prepare payroll reports, reconciliations and summaries for HR and Finance approval, issue payslips and respond to employee payroll queries.
  • Provide day-to-day HR administration across the full employee lifecycle, including onboarding, contracts, employee changes, absence, family leave and leavers.
  • Complete right-to-work and pre-employment checks and maintain accurate, confidential employee records across HR, payroll and time & attendance systems.
  • Coordinate approved recruitment campaigns, including adverts, interviews, offers, references, onboarding and inductions.
  • Liaise with approved recruitment agencies and manage agency/leased personnel records, including hours, rates, assignments and end dates.
  • Check agency timesheets and invoices against approved records, resolve discrepancies and maintain recruitment and agency trackers.
  • Support HR policies and employee relations, including investigations, disciplinary, grievance, capability and absence processes.

About You
  • At least 2 years' experience in an HR and payroll role.
