University of Southampton is seeking a proactive Ask HR Officer to join our HR team. The role involves first-line HR contact via telephone, email and in person, providing guidance on HR topics and supporting IT-enabled HR systems.
This 0.8FTE position (28.8 hours/week) offers a flexible pattern with in-person presence 2–3 days a week and opportunities to work from home when not in the office. Salary starts at £27,319 pro rata with benefits and career progression within the HR scale.

You will be able to demonstrate exceptional communication skills both written and verbal, with a good eye for detail. You will need to be proactive with a flexible approach and have the ability to work with changing priorities during periods of pressured workload. Naturally, you will be able to build and maintain relationships with a variety of people across the University.
The role is varied, as you will be the first line of contact for both internal and external customers contacting HR. We offer telephone, email and in-person support to customers using a range of IT systems (such as the central HR database and a ticketing system).
The expected hours of work for this part time (0.8FTE, 28.8 hours per week) role are 9am - 5pm. The work pattern (days to be worked) would be discussed during interviews and agreed upon offer.
The typical starting salary for this role will be £27,319.00 pro rata (spinal point 17 on the University Level 1-6 pay scale ), unless you have significant experience in a similar role. Staff increment one spinal point each year, up to the top of the Level.

What we offer:
Your main work location will be Highfield Campus, however, our HR department works across both Highfield Campus and One Guildhall Square. Both offices have easy access to public transport, restaurants, coffee shops and a University gym.
There is a team rota in place to cover the in-person service on Highfield Campus. The in-person service requires you to attend the office regularly (approximately 2-3 times per week and at other times when required). However, there is also the opportunity to work flexibly from home when not due in the office.
