Job description

Head of Human Resources | Salisbury | £45k pro rata | 4 days a week 50% WFH

If you're an experienced HR professional looking for a senior role with genuine influence, but without the rigidity that can sometimes come with it, this is an opportunity worth exploring.

ReQuire Consultancy are exclusively working with a highly regarded, values-led organisation in Salisbury to recruit a Head of Human Resources.

This is a senior and trusted appointment, reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer and sitting as a member of the Executive Team. You'll take ownership of the people agenda, advise senior leaders and play an important role in shaping culture, developing people and ensuring the organisation remains a positive and supportive place to work.

But what really makes this opportunity stand out is the environment you'll be joining.

This is a warm, down-to-earth and trusting organisation where flexibility really does mean flexibility.

A Working Pattern That Can Work Around You:
  • The role is 4 days a week (28 hours), with genuine flexibility how this is structured.
  • There will naturally be occasions when you'll want or need to be on site, meeting managers, supporting colleagues or attending Executive Team meetings, but there isn't an expectation that you need to be in the office simply for the sake of it.
  • There's plenty of opportunity to work from home, and you'll be trusted to manage your time according to the needs of the role.
  • That could mean working predominantly from home during school holidays, adjusting your days or hours at different points in the year, or establishing a regular pattern that works particularly well for you.
  • It's a grown-up approach built around trust, communication and getting the job done.
  • For someone who wants to retain the responsibility and influence of a senior HR career while creating greater balance around life outside work, that's a significant part of the appeal.
The Role

You'll be the organisation's senior HR professional, supported by a part-time HR Officer and working closely with the COO, Executive Team and managers.

This is a broad generalist position combining strategic HR with hands-on operational support. You'll have the autonomy to shape the HR function while remaining close enough to the organisation and its people to see the impact you're making.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as a trusted HR adviser to the Executive Team and managers
  • Providing practical advice across employee relations and employment law
  • Supporting complex and sensitive people matters
  • Developing and maintaining HR policies, processes and good practice
  • Overseeing recruitment, onboarding, contracts and induction
  • Supporting performance, absence, disciplinary and grievance processes
  • Developing learning, training and staff development
  • Supporting workforce planning and organisational resilience
  • Contributing to reward, remuneration and job evaluation
  • Monitoring HR information including turnover, absence and appraisals
  • Supporting safer recruitment and safeguarding practices
  • Managing and developing the part‑time HR Officer
  • Ensuring HR practices remain compliant and fit for purpose
  • Bringing the people perspective to wider organisational strategy
About You:

We're looking for an experienced HR professional who has operated at HR Manager, Head of HR, Senior HR Business Partner, People Lead or a comparable level.

Chartered CIPD membership is an essential requirement, so you'll need to be a Chartered Member (Chartered MCIPD) or Chartered Fellow (Chartered FCIPD).

You'll also bring:

  • Broad generalist HR experience at managerial level
  • Strong and current UK employment law knowledge
  • Confidence handling complex employee relations matters
  • Experience advising and influencing senior managers
  • A pragmatic and relational approach to HR
  • Experience managing and developing others
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Sound judgement, discretion and resilience
  • The ability to build trusted relationships across an organisation
  • Experience of safeguarding or working alongside volunteers would be useful, but isn't essential.

Likewise, you don't need to come from a particular sector. What matters more is your ability to understand and support the purpose and values of the organisation and bring an approachable, thoughtful and professional style to the role.

The Package:

Alongside the responsibility and influence of the position, there's a lot to like about the way this organisation approaches working life.

You'll receive:

  • Genuine flexibility how you operate your time
  • Significant opportunity to work from home
  • The freedom to work more remotely during periods such as school holidays
  • A warm, supportive and trusting working culture
  • Generous holiday allowance plus bank holidays
  • Subsidised city-centre parking, with the added benefit of being able to use your permit outside of work too

This is an opportunity to take on a senior, visible and influential HR role within an organisation that will trust you to manage your responsibilities, give you the freedom to shape how you work and offer the flexibility to build the role around life outside work. This isn't about being tied to a desk or following a rigid corporate working pattern.

For an experienced HR professional looking for seniority without unnecessary corporate rigidity, flexibility without sacrificing career responsibility, and a role where the people agenda genuinely matters, we'd love to hear from you.
