Business Manager - Human Resources at Morgan Hunt
HR Manager
Salary: £33,366 to £40,476
Contract: Full-time, Permanent (36.5 hours/week)
Location: South Birmingham with travel between sites
Morgan Hunt is proud to be partnering exclusively with a unique Education Federation in South Birmingham, comprising two special schools and an independent specialist college, to support the recruitment of their new HR Manager.
The Federation provides a continuous, high-quality educational experience for children and young people with complex needs, from early years through to adulthood.
Key Responsibilities HR Manager
- Lead and develop consistent HR practices across the Federation, ensuring legal compliance and alignment with strategic goals.
- Manage and coach the HR team (including assistants), handling induction, probation, performance, and training.
- Mentor and support line managers on people management, employee relations, and performance.
- Advise on complex HR cases (disciplinary, grievance, absence, capability) ensuring consistent policy application.
- Oversee safe, fair recruitment processes from job design to onboarding and vetting.
- Maintain safeguarding records (Single Central Record), manage payroll collaboration, and ensure compliance with HR legislation.
- Support change management initiatives, workforce planning, trade union consultations, and staff well-being.
- Produce data reports for governors, complete statutory returns (e.g., Workforce Census), and use HR metrics to drive improvement.
- Drive HR service development, identify best practices, and enhance systems/processes.
Experience & Skills:
- Substantial experience in a senior HR generalist or management role, ideally within education or public sector.
- Proven ability to manage complex casework, including disciplinary, grievance, absence, and capability.
- Experience leading a small HR team, with strong line management and coaching ability.
- Up-to-date knowledge of employment law, HR best practices, and safeguarding requirements.
- Competence in managing payroll processes (calculations), recruitment, and HR data reporting.
- Strong interpersonal skills and confidence in liaising with senior leaders, governors, and trade unions.
Qualifications & Attributes:
- CIPD Level 5 or above (or working towards).
- High levels of emotional intelligence, professionalism, and integrity.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making ability under pressure.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities across sites.
- Commitment to safeguarding, data protection, and promoting a positive work culture.
