Job summary

Trident Group is seeking an HR Manager to lead a small HR team, guiding advisory, employee-relations and administrative services across the organisation.

The postholder will manage complex employee-relations cases, provide expert guidance to managers and senior leaders, and contribute to the delivery of the people strategy within a regulated social housing environment. This role sits in the People & Culture team, driving a positive employee experience.

Qualifications

  • Proven generalist HR management or senior HR advisory experience.
  • Experience managing HR teams and performance.
  • Experience handling complex employee-relations cases.
  • Experience advising managers on sensitive people issues.
  • Experience developing HR policies and using HR systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day HR services with high-quality advice, guidance and support to managers and employees.
  • Ensure consistent support across the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, probation, performance, attendance, conduct, development and offboarding.
  • Advise on complex and sensitive employee-relations cases, including disciplinary, grievance, capability and absences matters.
  • Partner with hiring managers to define talent needs and recruitment strategies.
  • Design and embed a performance management culture and provide tools to empower managers to set goals aligned with Group objectives.
  • Champion Equality, Diversity and Inclusion across the Group.

Job description

The HR Manager will manage and develop a small HR team, ensuring that HR advisory, employee-relations and administrative services are coordinated, responsive and delivered consistently. The postholder will also manage complex and sensitive employee-relations cases, providing expert advice to managers and senior leaders where appropriate. Working as part of the People & Culture team, the HR Manager will contribute to the delivery of the organisation's people strategy, support a positive employee experience, and ensure that people policies and practices reflect organisational values, employment law and the requirements of a regulated social housing environment.

What you'll be doing
  • To lead the effective delivery of day-to-day HR services across the organisation, providing high-quality advice, guidance and support to managers and employees.
  • Ensure that the HR team provides consistent support across the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, probation, performance, attendance, conduct, development and offboarding.
  • Lead or provide expert advice on complex and sensitive employee-relations cases, including disciplinary, grievance, capability, TUPE, ET and workplace relationship matters.
  • Ensure effective partnering with hiring managers to define talent needs and recruitment strategies
  • Design, implement and embed a performance management culture. Providing the tools and guidance to enable managers to define colleague and team goals that support Group objectives

  • Proven experience in a generalist HR management, HR business partnering or senior HR advisory role.
  • Experience managing and developing an HR team, including setting objectives, allocating work, providing supervision and managing performance.
  • Significant experience managing complex employee-relations cases, including disciplinary, grievance, capability, performance and absence matters.
  • Experience advising managers and senior leaders on sensitive, high-risk or legally complex people issues.
  • Experience developing, reviewing and implementing HR policies and procedures.
  • Experience using HR systems and producing workforce reports and management information.
  • Experience working in social housing, public sector, regulated services or another complex organisational environment is desirable.
  • Experience supporting organisational change, restructuring, consultation or service improvement is desirable.
Skills and capabilities
  • Strong people-management skills, with the ability to motivate, develop and support an HR team.
  • CIPD Level 5 Associate Diploma in People Management, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Able to lead through collaboration, set clear expectations and create a positive team culture.
  • Excellent employee-relations judgement, with the ability to assess evidence, risk and proportionality.
  • Able to provide clear, confident and commercially aware advice to managers and senior leaders.
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills, including the confidence to challenge constructively.
  • Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, case documentation, policies and formal correspondence.
  • Strong verbal communication skills, with the ability to handle difficult and sensitive conversations professionally.
  • Able to manage competing priorities and ensure that urgent or high-risk matters receive appropriate attention.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to interpret legislation and policy and translate requirements into practical advice.
  • High level of discretion, integrity and emotional resilience.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate record-keeping.
  • Able to use HR data to identify trends, inform decisions and support service improvement.
  • Confident using HR systems, case-management tools and Microsoft 365.
  • Able to build effective working relationships across the organisation and contribute positively to a collaborative People & Culture service.
