Our client is a well-established organisation operating within the transport sector, providing essential services within a complex, fast paced and operational environment.

About the Successful Applicant

You will be an accomplished senior HR leader with broad experience across employee relations, organisational development, talent and learning. Strong UK employment law knowledge and demonstrable trade union consultation and negotiation experience are essential. You will be a credible communicator capable of influencing senior stakeholders and leading organisational change. Experience of HR systems and people data is required, while a CIPD or equivalent professional HR qualification would be desirable. You will have a background in Logistics/Manufacturing/Distribution/Engineering or similar sectors.

About the Job

As Human Resources Director, you will take ownership of the organisation's people agenda, combining strategic leadership with hands-on oversight of HR operations. Reporting to the Managing Director, you will provide senior‑level guidance across employee relations, organisational development, workforce planning, learning and development, talent and people policy.

This is a broad leadership position with responsibility for both the HR and training functions, as well as building productive relationships with recognised trade unions and supporting managers to develop high‑performing teams.

Duties will include:
  • Creating and delivering a people strategy that supports the organisation's wider objectives and future workforce requirements.
  • Acting as a trusted adviser to senior leadership on complex and strategically important people matters.
  • Leading workforce planning, performance, succession and employee engagement activity.
  • Taking ownership of complex employee relations cases, including disciplinary, grievance, absence, capability and organisational change matters.
  • Managing relationships with recognised trade unions and leading consultation and negotiation on collective matters.
  • Overseeing the organisation's learning and development approach, ensuring training requirements are identified and effectively delivered.
  • Strengthening management and leadership capability through coaching, development and appropriate training programmes.
  • Maintaining effective HR policies and processes in accordance with UK employment legislation and recognised good practice.
  • Providing oversight of recruitment, onboarding and retention activity to support the organisation's talent requirements.
  • Supporting organisational design, transformation and cultural development programmes.
  • Ensuring HR systems, reporting and people data provide accurate insight to support workforce and business decisions.
  • Developing strong relationships across the organisation and with relevant external stakeholders.
  • Leading, developing and motivating the HR and training teams, ensuring consistently high standards of service and delivery.
