Overview

York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has an exciting opportunity within the Workforce & OD Directorate as a Human Resources Advisor. The closing date is 02 October 2025. The role can be based at York or Scarborough Hospital; remote working is in place, with requirement to attend face-to-face meetings at Trust sites as required.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an experienced HR Advisor who has worked in an environment where they are the first point of contact for managers, providing professional, high-quality advice and guidance to facilitate the early resolution of difficult, complex or sensitive employee relations issues, ensuring that employees are treated fairly and risks are effectively managed. Responsibilities include providing a timely advisory service to managers and supporting the HR Support Team on general operational issues such as terms and conditions of service, family-friendly policies, annual leave, flexible working, and the initial stages of sickness absence, performance management, conduct investigations, civility, respect and resolution cases.

You must communicate effectively and confidently to a wide range of audiences. If you are self-motivated and looking to expand your knowledge and career within HR, this could be the role you have been waiting for.

Person Specification
Education, Qualifications and Training
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience OR at least 2 years at an advisory level within a HR function with evidence of continuing professional development OR at least 2 years of managing staff in a customer-focused environment with a person-centred management and leadership approach.
  • Associate CIPD qualification level 5 or commitment to obtain within 3 years of commencing in post (equivalent to the former Graduate CIPD).
Experience & Knowledge Required
  • An understanding of Employee Relations issues (e.g. disciplinary, sickness, bullying & harassment, grievance etc).
  • Experience of working in a Human Resources function in the NHS
Skills & Attributes
  • Ability to communicate effectively and confidently to a wide range of audiences
  • Ability to use own initiative to interpret policies, procedures and situations in order to identify pragmatic solutions/recommendations on a case-by-case basis
