Job summary

Langford Vets is seeking an HR Advisor (Employee Relations & Recruitment) to join our busy HR team. You will advise managers on complex ER matters, lead investigations, and support recruitment activities while promoting fair, compliant people practices across a veterinary organisation.

Reporting to the HR Director, you will drive improvements in policies and guidance, deliver manager training, and collaborate with the wider HR team to meet business objectives.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience handling employee relations cases across disciplinary, grievance, absence and performance matters.
  • Strong understanding of UK employment law and HR best practice.
  • Experience conducting workplace investigations and advising managers.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice and coaching to managers on ER and recruitment matters.

Job description

We're looking for an HR Advisor - Employee Relations & Recruitment to join our friendly and busy HR team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting managers across a diverse veterinary organisation, managing complex employee relations matters, and helping to attract and retain exceptional people. This role offers a varied workload, significant autonomy, and the opportunity to work on a range of interesting people projects while contributing to the delivery of our people strategy. About the Role Reporting to the HR Director, you will provide expert advice and guidance across a broad range of employee relations matters, ensuring managers are supported to make fair, consistent and legally compliant decisions. Alongside employee relations casework, you will support recruitment activity across the business, ensuring compliance with employment legislation and equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) principles., Employee Relations

Employee Relations
  • Provide expert advice and coaching to managers on disciplinary, grievance, absence, capability, performance and probation matters.
  • Manage complex employee relations cases from start to finish.
  • Conduct and support workplace investigations.
  • Liaise with ACAS and external legal advisers where required.
  • Support managers in managing sensitive people issues, including reasonable adjustments and disability-related matters.
  • Identify and mitigate employee relations risks while promoting fair and consistent decision-making.
  • Draft formal correspondence, outcome letters and other HR documentation.
Recruitment
  • Advise managers on recruitment best practice and legally compliant recruitment processes.
  • Partner with managers on workforce planning and recruitment activities.
  • Ensure recruitment processes align with employment legislation, right to work requirements and EDI principles.
Wider HR Support
  • Contribute to HR projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Review and develop HR policies, procedures and guidance.
  • Deliver training and coaching to managers and employees.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider HR team to support the delivery of business objectives.

Further Responsibilities
  • Maintaining a good working relationship with all team members.
  • Communicating in an effective and pleasant manner with clients and colleagues.
  • Assist in the review of documentation, policies and procedure as necessary.
  • Provide training and guidance to employees as required regarding HR processes and best practice
  • Carry out all other reasonable duties as requested by the line manager.

Are you an experienced HR professional who thrives on providing practical, commercially focused employee relations advice while also supporting recruitment and talent attraction?, We're looking for someone who is confident, pragmatic and approachable, with strong employee relations experience and a passion for providing excellent HR support.

You’ll have

  • Excellent stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
  • The confidence to influence and challenge managers constructively.
  • Strong written communication skills and attention to detail.
  • The ability to manage a varied and demanding workload.
  • Experience advising on reasonable adjustments and Occupational Health recommendations.
  • CIPD Level 5 qualification (or equivalent experience).
Desirable
  • Experience working with ACAS and external legal advisers.
  • Previous experience supporting recruitment and talent acquisition activities., Extensive experience managing complex employee relations cases from initial consultation through to resolution, including disciplinary, grievance, capability, absence, performance and appeal processes.
  • Experience liaising with ACAS and legal advisors Strong up-to-date knowledge of UK employment law, recruitment legislation and HR best practice, including equality, diversity and inclusion principles, right to work requirements and fair recruitment practices, with the ability to apply this in practice. Proven experience conducting complex workplace investigations. Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to influence, coach and challenge managers at all levels of the Company. Strong written communication skills, with experience drafting formal correspondence, and outcome letters. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with professionalism, discretion and sound judgement. Demonstrated ability to manage a high-volume and demanding caseload whilst maintaining attention to detail and meeting deadlines. Experience advising on reasonable adjustments, disability-related matters and occupational health recommendations. Strong organisational and prioritisation skills, with the ability to work independently and quickly establish credibility within a busy HR function.
