Job summary

Morson Group is seeking an HR Adviser in London to support line managers with complex people issues across sickness absence, disciplinary, grievance and performance matters. The role sits in the HR Operations team within the HR directorate and is permanent, with hybrid working after a short initial period.

Primary responsibilities include providing structured case management, ensuring all cases are documented in HR systems, and advising on employment law and policy.

Qualifications

  • Experience handling disciplinary, grievances, sickness absence management, performance, discrimination, bullying & harassment, redeployment and redundancy cases.
  • Advising managers on terms and conditions and employment law.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to influence at all levels.
  • Experience maintaining HR systems and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advice, guidance, documentation and structured case management support to business managers.
  • Ensure that all case management is recorded on HR systems to support weekly management reporting.
  • Manage all case work following HR policy and procedures, tracking progress against defined timescales.
  • Provide advice to managers on employment law, terms and conditions and HR policy and procedures.
  • Undertake project work and tasks as assigned by the HR Operations Manager.
  • Support managers with resolving governance and audit findings.
  • Check employment change requests submitted by managers and discuss with HR Operations Manager.
  • Monitor and record sickness absence management and poor performance; coach managers.
  • Support managers with long-term sickness and Occupational Health advice.
  • Demonstrate positive customer service through seamless HR operations and coverage.
  • Improve manager capability via coaching and workshops.
  • Ensure HR systems are updated and maintained.
  • Contribute to HR policy development and participate in working groups.
  • Participate in job evaluation panels when requested.
  • Manage relationships with Trade Union representatives.
  • Maintain reporting systems and provide management information.

Job description

Job Title: HR Advisor
Location: London, Elephant and Castle – 3 days on site, 2 days working from home. With occasional travel to other sites (expensed).
Salary: £50,000 PA - £58,000 PA plus bonus (between 7.5% - 15%)

This HR Advisor position will report to the HR Operations Manager and will work within the Human Resources directorate. This is a permanent position.

Salary is dependent on experience, plus a bonus. Hybrid working options are available after around 5 weeks of employment.

About the Role

You will sit within the centre of excellence for the provision of professional guidance and support to line managers on the management of cases which arise from the application of people management policies and practice (covering sickness absence management, disciplinary, grievance, performance improvement, discrimination, bullying & harassment, redeployment and redundancy).

Main Interfaces
  • Daily interfaces will be with managers who require support from the HR Operations team on people management procedures.
  • You will work with Trade Union and employee representatives, HR Business Partners and Stakeholders (management and supervisory level).
  • Other internal interfaces include HR Services, Talent Acquisition, Payroll, Pensions, Legal and Occupational Health.
Main Responsibilities
  • Provide advice, guidance, documentation and structured case management support to business managers.
  • Ensure that all case management is recorded on the HR systems to support weekly management reporting.
  • Manage all case work following HR policy and procedures, tracking progress against defined timescales, offering solutions to move cases to a conclusion.
  • Provide advice to managers on aspects of employment law, terms and conditions, and HR policy and procedures.
  • Undertake project work and tasks as assigned by the HR Operations Manager, providing regular updates on progress and timelines.
  • Support managers with resolving governance and audit findings.
  • Check all employment change requests submitted by managers, raising any queries for discussion with the HR Operations Manager before approving.
  • Monitor and record sickness absence management and poor performance within the business, coaching managers to progress their cases through all stages of the procedure.
  • Support managers with the management of long-term sickness with Occupational Health advice.
  • Demonstrate positive customer service behaviours through the provision of a seamless HR operational service to the business, ensuring cover is provided when colleagues are absent.
  • Ensure all issues raised via phone, face to face and email are acknowledged and responded to promptly.
  • Improve manager capability by identifying where local managers need coaching and support with HR procedures, delivering workshops or local coaching sessions and evaluating their effectiveness.
  • Ensure HR systems are updated and maintained.
  • Contribute to the development of HR policies and procedures, participating in working groups when requested.
  • Participate in job evaluation panels when requested (subject to training).
  • Manage relationships with Trade Union and employee representatives to ensure smooth case management processes.
  • Maintain reporting systems and provide management information when requested, to ensure consistency of approach and outcome.
Qualifications
Essential:
  • Chartered Member of the CIPD or currently undertaking CIPD studies
  • Experience managing a range of complex cases (disciplinaries, grievances, sickness absence management, performance, discrimination, bullying & harassment, redeployment and redundancy) and able to apply relevant techniques to situations, gained from previous HR operational roles
  • Experience advising managers on the application of complex terms and conditions
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Knowledge of employment law and HR policy and best practice
  • Project management skills
  • Ability to build relationships and influence at all levels
  • A track record in developing practical solutions to HR issues and effective delivery of projects and services
  • A tenacious personality able to see problems through to the end
  • Self-motivated team player
  • Ability to compile and analyse reports from HR systems
  • Ability to communicate with a diverse client group
  • Ability to produce succinct correspondence and reports
  • Ability to research, analyse and reason logically within tight deadlines

Desirable:
