Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an HR Advisor to support the Port Director and local management teams across Glasgow and Greenock in delivering People Plan objectives.

You will provide practical HR advice to managers, coach on policies and employment law, manage employee relations matters, and work with the HR Business Partner on change initiatives and data reporting. The role requires CIPD qualification or progression, strong communication, and the ability to work independently with remote HR colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Port Director and local management teams to deliver divisional targets and objectives
  • Provide practical HR advice to managers to help them lead teams effectively and make fair, consistent decisions
  • Coach, educate and support managers on HR policies, procedures and employment legislation
  • Support employee relations activity, including investigations, disciplinaries, grievances and capability matters
  • Guide managers through employee relations processes in a timely and professional way
  • Work with the HR Business Partner to support change, business improvement and wider People Plan activity
  • Initiate and facilitate local people initiatives that improve ways of working and support business priorities
  • Proactively manage short- and long-term sickness absence and ill-health capability cases
  • Make Occupational Health referrals where needed
  • Help managers follow up on GP or Occupational Health recommendations
  • Work across King George V Dock and Greenock operational sites

Requirements
  • Experience providing HR advice and support to new and experienced managers
  • Strong grounding in HR practice
  • Confidence interpreting policies, procedures and employment legislation fairly, practically and consistently
  • Clear and confident communication skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with colleagues at all levels
  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving operational environment
  • Organised, curious and comfortable working with data
  • Ability to use HR systems to access, input and analyse information and produce clear reports and practical recommendations
  • Ability to work independently while staying connected with remote HR colleagues and the wider People team
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Access to own car
  • CIPD qualified or working towards this is ideal
  • Previous experience working closely with Trade Unions is advantageous but not essential
