Job summary

Independent Utility Advice is seeking an experienced HR Administrator to join the People team. You will handle end-to-end HR administration, recruitment onboarding, and maintain accurate records with our HRIS.

Working closely with the Head of HR, you will support employee relations and ensure processes meet data protection standards. You will develop knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice, progressing toward an HR Advisor role within a fast-paced environment while delivering

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in an HR Administrator or similar HR support role.
  • Strong understanding of HR administration and the employee lifecycle.
  • Experience using HR systems and maintaining accurate employee records.
  • Exposure to employee relations matters including absence, probation, performance management, disciplinary and grievance processes.
  • Good understanding of UK employment law and HR best practice, with willingness to continue developing this knowledge.
  • Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Confident written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with employees and managers at all levels.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
  • Proactive, organised and capable in a fast-paced commercial environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate and efficient HR administration across the full employee lifecycle, including new starters, contractual changes, and leavers.
  • Prepare contracts of employment, offer letters, HR correspondence, and other employee documentation.
  • Maintain accurate employee records within the HRIS, ensuring confidentiality and data protection requirements are met.
  • Complete Right to Work checks and other required pre-employment screening activities.
  • Monitor probation periods, absence records, and other key HR milestones, ensuring appropriate actions and documentation are completed.
  • Support employee relations matters including absence, probation, performance management, disciplinary, and grievance processes.
  • Assist the Head of HR with employee relations casework, developing towards greater ownership of straightforward cases.
  • Support managers with absence management and return-to-work processes.
  • Coordinate recruitment and onboarding activities, helping to deliver a positive and organised new starter experience.
  • Produce routine HR reports and management information.
  • Prepare and provide accurate employee and payroll information to the external payroll provider, ensuring all changes are communicated within required timescales.
  • Respond to employee and manager queries, providing guidance on HR policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Support the review and continuous improvement of HR policies, procedures, templates, and ways of working.
  • Develop knowledge of employment legislation and HR best practice with a view to progressing into an HR Advisor role.

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced and proactive HR Administrator to join our growing People team. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, have excellent attention to detail, and enjoy supporting employees and managers across a wide range of HR activities, this could be the perfect role for you.

This position is ideally suited to an experienced HR Administrator looking to take the next step in their HR career. Alongside responsibility for core HR administration, the role offers exposure to a broad range of people-related matters and a clear development pathway towards an HR Advisor position.

Working closely with the Head of HR, you will support the delivery of an efficient and professional HR service, ensuring employee records, documentation, and HR processes are managed accurately and within agreed timescales. As your knowledge, confidence, and capability develop, you will gradually take on greater responsibility for providing first-line advice to managers and supporting employee relations matters.

Key Responsibilities

Skills & Experience
Essential

  • Industry experience is preferential but not essential.
  • CIPD Level 3 qualification or equivalent experience.
