Job summary

The MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) invites applications for a Scientific Computing Officer to maintain and develop its HPC and data storage infrastructure, focusing on neurobiology research. The role requires server administration, Linux/Unix expertise, and experience with ML libraries to support large datasets.

You will plan installations, manage the HPC cluster, contribute to disaster recovery, and engage with scientists to deploy robust IT solutions.

Qualifications

Essential: Degree in Computing, Science or equivalent subject.
Desirable: MSc/MA/PhD or other formal computing qualifications.
Essential: Experience of server administration and/or system development.
Essential: Experience of supporting Linux and Unix systems.
Essential: Experience of using HPC clusters or cluster-based storage systems.
Essential: Competent in writing Shell Scripts.

Responsibilities

Provide day-to-day maintenance of Scientific Computing facilities.
Plan, install, commission and maintain compute and data storage resources.
Lead responsibility for computing resources and liaise with management and scientists.
Maintain services such as DNS, DHCP, Linux workstations, storage servers and the computing cluster.
Advise users on deep learning for large datasets, including training and inference.
