Job summary

Syngenta Group is seeking an HPC Lead to own and evolve the High Performance Computing infrastructure for R&D scientists in the UK. You will manage clusters, GPU provisioning, storage, and orchestration, while partnering with researchers and bioinformaticians to optimize workloads and deliver scalable, secure compute.

You will drive strategy, architecture, and procurement decisions, mentor engineering teams, and ensure cost-effective operation with robust documentation and runbooks.

Qualifications

• Deep HPC infrastructure expertise for clusters, GPU provisioning and storage.
• Ability to translate scientific workloads into scalable infrastructure.
• Experience with modern orchestration and Kubernetes-native HPC.
• Proven leadership in building high-performing teams and budgets.

Responsibilities

• Own the HPC infrastructure and collaborate with engineers on clusters and GPUs.
• Define the HPC architecture roadmap including topology and storage.
• Drive procurement, vendor evaluation and investment decisions.
• Plan capacity, maintenance, and monitor cost efficiency with SLAs.
• Partner with scientists to match workloads to infrastructure capabilities.
• Develop automation scripts and infrastructure-as-code with runbooks.
• Lead and grow engineering teams, fostering continuous improvement.
• Establish KPIs and perform capacity forecasting for resource use.
• Create comprehensive documentation and knowledge management.
