Job summary

The Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB), part of UK Research and Innovation, Cambridge, seeks a Scientific Computing Officer to maintain the HPC cluster and petabyte-scale data storage supporting neurobiology research. The role involves planning, installing, and keeping compute resources up to date, including ML workloads and deep learning tools.

You will work with the Scientific Computing team and scientists to implement scalable infrastructure, document changes, and participate in meetings

Qualifications

  • Essential: Degree in Computing, Science or equivalent subject.
  • Desirable: MSc/MA/PhD in Computing or related field.
  • Essential: Experience of server administration and/or system development.
  • Desirable: Experience integrating Linux servers into Linux/Windows/Mac environments using NFS and Samba; LDAP/Kerberos/AD; training large language models; imagery management for large-scale connectomics.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and troubleshoot the Institute's Scientific Computing facilities and compute/storage resources.
  • Plan, install, commission and maintain HPC cluster and data storage for research including ML.
  • Lead one or more computing resources and document changes.
  • Provide technical support for Linux workstations, servers and backups.
  • Collaborate with scientists to apply deep learning to large datasets.
