Job summary

British American Tobacco UK is seeking a HP Substrate Developer in Southampton to deliver substrate innovation within the New Categories R&D Consumable Discovery group. You will work on formulation, processing, and testing of heated product substrate solutions, ensuring alignment with product performance, cost, ESG and EHS requirements.

The role requires strong chemistry understanding, material science fundamentals, and experience leading technical activities within structured development

Qualifications

• Experience in R&D or material development.
• Practical background in substrate development or chemistry-driven product development.
• Hands-on processing technology experience relevant to consumables.

Responsibilities

• Lead or execute substrate innovation work packages within PLM governance.
• Define technical plans, coordinate activities and manage risks for the scope.
• Conduct formulation trials and optimise substrate processing.
• Generate experimental data and documentation for decision making.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external suppliers.
