Job summary

Tamworth Borough Council is recruiting for a Private Sector Housing Enforcement & Tenancy Liaison Officer to strengthen housing standards across the borough. The role reports to the private sector housing team leader and requires handling enforcement actions in the private rental sector, including tenancy regulation and anti-harassment measures.

Qualifications

• Experience in private sector housing enforcement and tenancy regulation advantageous.
• Understanding of Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) helpful.
• Ability to investigate disrepair and breaches of housing legislation.

Responsibilities

• Investigate complaints relating to disrepair, poor housing conditions and breaches of housing legislation.
• Conduct inspections using the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS).
• Prepare schedules of work and serving statutory notices.
• Monitor compliance and undertake enforcement actions where necessary.
• Investigate unlawful eviction, harassment, discrimination and rent increases.
• Provide specialist advice to landlords and tenants.
• Prepare evidence and case files for civil penalties and prosecutions.
• Represent the Council at court and tribunal hearings when required.
• Work with partners to prevent homelessness arising from private rented sector issues.
