Job summary

Waythrough is recruiting a Housing Stability Coach (Lived experience peer role) based in Sheffield with outreach focus. The role supports individuals at transition points, including prison release and discharge from recovery housing, to sustain accommodation and reduce homelessness risk.

37 hours/week, £25,878–£30,868 per year, permanent contract. Applicants will use their lived experience to build trust, provide emotional and practical support, and work alongside housing and treatment services

Qualifications

  • Lived experience of substance use, recovery and/or homelessness (with a period of stability)
  • Experience of engaging with support services (e.g., treatment services, housing services, mental health services)
  • Demonstrable experience of supporting, mentoring, or advocating for others (formal or informal)
  • Understanding of the challenges associated with substance use, recovery journeys, and/or homelessness
  • Ability to build trusting relationships and engage people
  • Ability to motivate and inspire individuals to make positive changes
  • Reliable and able to maintain consistency with clients
  • Driving licence and access to vehicle is essential

Responsibilities

  • Use lived experience to build trusting, credible relationships with individuals who may be disengaged from services
  • Provide emotional and practical support during high-risk transition periods
  • Act as a positive role model, demonstrating recovery and stability
  • Contribute to a team effort that supports individuals transitioning from prison, treatment services, or recovery supported housing, including residential rehabilitation into independent living
  • Assist with settling into new tenancies, including establishing routines and accessing local services
  • Provide early-stage support to reduce the risk of tenancy breakdown
  • Support individuals to understand and maintain their tenancy responsibilities
  • Identify early warning signs of tenancy risk (e.g. relapse, disengagement, arrears)
  • Work alongside housing stability workers to implement relapse-informed housing plans
  • Encourage engagement with drug and alcohol treatment and recovery services where appropriate
  • Support individuals to develop coping strategies and relapse prevention approaches
  • Promote wellbeing, independence, and community integration
  • Work in partnership with services such as housing, probation, health and social care
  • Advocate on behalf of clients to ensure access to services
  • Contribute to joint support planning and case reviews
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries within a peer role
  • Recognise and respond to safeguarding concerns
  • Share relevant information with the team to support risk management
  • Follow organisational policies and procedures
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of engagement and support provided
  • Work flexibly, including community visits and lone working
