Job summary

Oldham Council is seeking a Homelessness Prevention Officer to deliver high-quality, customer-focused housing advice and investigations for residents at risk of rough sleeping in Oldham. The role involves handling applications under homelessness legislation, ensuring legal compliance, and meeting performance standards.

You will undertake detailed casework, write notifications and referrals, and support the Council in delivering its statutory duties within a 12-month fixed term contract.

Qualifications

• Experience in communicating complex legal or housing-related information clearly to diverse audiences.
• Understanding of homelessness legislation and duties under Housing Act 1996 Part VII and Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.

Responsibilities

• Provide housing options interviews and homelessness investigations, taking full applications and ensuring duties are carried out at the relevant stages within homelessness legislation.
• Undertake detailed casework for customers who are homeless or threatened with homelessness, assess duties, housing and support needs, and prepare Personal Housing Plans.
• Draft and issue notifications, letters of referral, and outcome letters, including s184 letters, for manager approval.
