Job summary

Service Care Legal in South London is seeking an experienced Housing Litigation Lawyer to join a local authority legal team on a temporary basis. You will manage a varied caseload covering possession, disrepair, debt recovery, and enforcement, provide practical advice to council officers and elected members, draft documents, and undertake advocacy in courts and tribunals.

The role is hybrid with at least two days per week in the office.

Qualifications

• Experience in housing law matters, ideally within a local authority.
• Strong advocacy and drafting skills.
• Ability to provide clear, practical legal advice to stakeholders.
• Solicitor or qualified legal professional with housing law experience.

Responsibilities

• Manage a varied caseload of housing matters, including possession proceedings, housing disrepair, debt recovery, anti-social behaviour and housing enforcement.
• Provide practical legal advice and support to council officers, Chief Officers and elected members.
• Draft legal documents, negotiate settlements and undertake advocacy in courts and tribunals.
• Handle legal matters arising from the Council's housing functions, ensuring advice is accurate and commercially pragmatic.

Role: Housing Litigation Lawyer

• Rate: £50ph umbrella / £43.82ph PAYE inc. holiday pay / £39.10ph PAYE exc. holiday pay
• Location: South London
• Contract: 6 months with possibility of extension
• Please note that this role hybrid and at least 2 days per week in the office.
