Job summary

Nottingham City Council is seeking a motivated Housing Casework Officer – Rough Sleeper Specialist to join our Housing Solutions team. You will deliver housing advice, prevent homelessness, and carry out statutory assessments for rough sleepers or those at risk, collaborating with support agencies, landlords and services to help clients access suitable accommodation and support.

The role requires solid casework skills, knowledge of housing legislation, and excellent communication and negotiation

About the Role

We are looking for a motivated and compassionate Housing Casework Officer – Rough Sleeper Specialist to join our Housing Solutions service. In this key frontline role, you will provide high-quality housing advice, homelessness prevention support and statutory assessments for citizens who are rough sleeping or at risk of rough sleeping. Working flexibly across the city and in partnership with support agencies, landlords and other services, you will help people access the right advice, accommodation options and wider support to move away from rough sleeping and achieve positive, sustainable outcomes. The role requires strong casework skills, sound knowledge of housing and homelessness legislation, excellent communication and negotiation skills, and a commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and putting citizens first.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

• Good operational working knowledge of Homelessness and associated legislation and an ability to advise on and decide any duties owed to citizens for the Authority
• An understanding of the wider issues impacting upon homelessness, the barriers facing people with multiple and complex needs and the challenges faced in resolving rough sleeping
• An ability to communicate complex issues on a face to face basis, demonstrating tact, diplomacy, sensitivity and customer care
• An ability to effectively manage a complex workload under pressure meeting specified targets and deadlines whilst demonstrating attention to detail, prioritisation and self-organisation skills
• A commitment to providing a high quality customer focussed service
• An ability to work successfully in partnership across different sectors, building and maintaining good working relationships

This post is covered by the statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) (English Language Requirement for public sector workers) and therefore the ability to speak fluent English, is an essential requirement for the role
