Job summary

North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Maternity Unit Housekeeper to join our rural and remote healthcare team in Whitehaven. This 30-hour permanent role offers an opportunity to support high standards of cleanliness and patient comfort in a busy unit.

You will work under supervision to maintain a safe environment, serve meals, and uphold hygiene across ward areas, with in-house training provided.

Qualifications

  • NVQ 1 in hotel services/food service or equivalent or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience in customer service or caring environment.
  • Experience in housekeeping/domestic duties in hospital settings.
  • Knowledge of basic food hygiene and infection prevention.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean, safe environment for patients, visitors and staff under supervision.
  • Serve patient meals and beverages at scheduled times, assisting with feeding when needed.
  • Maintain hygiene standards of ward kitchen and treatment/stock rooms, keeping surfaces and equipment clean.
  • Assist with stock rotation and keeping equipment and utensils clean.

Maternity Unit WCH Housekeeper 30 hrs permanent.

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic housekeeper who wants to work as part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team striving to deliver high standards of care. This is an exciting opportunity to join our team and gain valuable experience within our departments.

Previous experience as a housekeeper is not essential as in-house training will be provided to ensure you are fully equipped to meet the demands of this role.

Main duties of the job

Work under supervision of the Labour Ward Coordinators/Registered Midwives as part of the unit team to maintain a clean, safe and comfortable environment for patients, visitors and staff.

Serve patient meals and hot and cold beverages at the scheduled times, adhering to food hygiene regulations. Assist with feeding patients as deemed appropriate by qualified nursing staff.

Monitor and maintain high standards of cleaning and hygiene standards of ward kitchen (including fridge and microwave) and treatment/stock/staff rooms, ensuring all equipment/utensils and surfaces are clean at all times, eg discarding out of date food, stock rotation.
