Job Description

Thalia Waste Management, a leader in innovative waste-to-energy solutions, is seeking a dedicated Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) and Waste Transfer Station (WTS) Supervisor to join our dynamic team. This pivotal role supports our HWRC Operations Manager in the day-to-day operations of our HWRC and WTS ensuring efficiency, safety, and environmental compliance.

Location: Isle of Wight HWRC Site at Lynnbottom, PO30 2PD and HWRC site at Afton Marsh (Freshwater) PO40 9TT

Working Hours:

• 40 hour week - 4 over 7 days on a rota basis

Key Responsibilities:

• Uphold the highest standards of Health & Safety, promptly addressing and reporting any concerns to maintain our commitment to a zero-incident workplace.
• Monitor and ensure the achievement of KPIs in line with our strategic business objectives, contributing to the overall success and efficiency of the plant.
• Manage the day-to-day operations of the HWRC and WTS sites.
• Supervise site operatives.
• Ensure the day-to-day security of the site.
• Oversee the safe and secure operation of the weighbridge.
• Maintain the site drop-off/loading areas in a safe and efficient manner.
• Operate all loading/unloading plant and machinery as required.
• Supervise the loading/unloading of materials and drive on-site vehicles as required.
• Use the performance review system to set annual objectives for direct reports. Review progress on objectives periodically and perform annual reviews.
• Act as first line manager and people manager for site operatives. Organise work schedules to ensure appropriate staff numbers are available. Check and sign off time sheets.

Person:

• Certificate of Technical Competence (CoTC) – WAMITAB scheme or equivalent (desirable).
• IoSH Managing Safely or equivalent (desirable).

Skills:

• Proficient in Microsoft Office and capable of adapting to various computer-based systems.
• Knowledge of mobile plant and machinery operation and maintenance (desirable).

Experience:

• Experience in the waste industry, particularly in operating mobile and Mechanical Treatment Plants, is highly desirable.
• Essential experience in people management or supervision, demonstrating strong leadership and team-building abilities.

• Excellent organisational and communication skills, capable of engaging effectively at all levels within the organisation.
