Job summary

West Herts College, Hemel Hempstead Campus, is seeking an Educational Communicator to support learners in the SEND department. This hourly paid role is based at the Hemel Hempstead Campus and involves 18 hours per week.

You will work one-to-one with learners, using BSL to assist hearing-impaired students, and collaborate with tutors to adapt intervention strategies. Training and development are encouraged, and a cycle to work scheme, free on-site parking and generous pension scheme are available.

Qualifications

• BSL Level 3 qualification required.
• Experience supporting hearing-impaired learners.
• Experience working with learners with learning difficulties or disabilities.

Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the SEND department for an Educational Communicator to join our team. This is an hourly paid position based at our Hemel Hempstead Campus.

The team provides a range of support for learners with a learning difficulties or disabilities to enable them to access educational opportunities offered by the College.

The successful candidate will have highlyeffective BSL communication skills with experience of supporting the hearing impaired and working with young people or adults who have learning difficulties or disabilities. To be considered for this role you will have at least a Level 3 BSL Qualification.

You will be required to support learners on a one-to-one basis both in and outside of class. Working cooperatively with tutors, you will assist with classroom intervention strategies to meet the needs of the hearing-impaired learner.

You must be able to demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and outside authorities. The successful candidate must be able to work well as part of a team and have the aptitude to work independently and unsupervised when required.

This role is 18 hours per week. The closing date for applications is Sunday 11th October 2026.
