Job summary

Itchen Sixth Form College is seeking a friendly Hospitality Assistant to join the catering team on a casual, bank contract. You will help provide a welcoming service to students, staff and visitors, prepare and serve food and drinks, operate the till, and keep service areas clean and well presented.

Shifts may include evenings and weekends and some events. Experience in catering, hospitality or retail is helpful but not essential; safeguarding responsibilities apply.

Qualifications

• Good literacy and numeracy.
• Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate or willingness to obtain within probation.
• Experience in customer service.
• Experience maintaining high cleanliness and presentation standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide excellent customer service to students, staff and visitors.
• Assist in the day-to-day running of the College's catering and retail facilities.
• Prepare, present and serve food and beverages to a high standard.
• Operate tills and process cash and card transactions accurately.
• Maintain clean, tidy and well-presented catering and retail areas.
• Assist with stock control, including receiving, unpacking and storing deliveries.
• Replenish and maintain displays as required.
• Ensure all products are correctly priced and displayed.
• Follow all food hygiene, health and safety, and College policies and procedures.
• Report any accidents, incidents, defects or customer concerns promptly to the Hospitality Manager.
• Assist with ordering and stock management processes as required.
• Work flexibly to support the department during periods of absence, emergencies and special events, including occasional evenings and weekends.
• Attend relevant meetings and training as required.
• Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people and comply with all safeguarding responsibilities.
• Undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade and responsibilities of the post.

Compensation: £14.61 / hour

Description

We are looking for a friendly and reliable Hospitality Assistant to join our catering team on a casual contract. Work will be offered as and when needed, so there are no guaranteed hours. You will help provide a welcoming service to students, staff and visitors across the College’s catering and retail facilities. Your duties will include preparing and serving food and drinks, operating the till, keeping service areas clean and well presented, and helping to receive and replenish stock. Some shifts may be offered for College events, including occasional evenings and weekends. You will bring excellent customer service skills, a flexible approach and the ability to stay organised during busy periods. Experience in catering, hospitality or retail would be helpful, but it is not essential. Itchen Sixth Form College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful candidate will be expected to share this commitment and complete the appropriate pre-employment checks.

Contract: Casual Claims

Salary: SCP 5, currently £13.04p/h + £1.57p/h holi allowance
