Job summary

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Waste Operative to join the Waste Management team. You will collect, segregate and transport waste across the hospital, ensuring compliance with policies and environmental regulations.

You will operate waste handling equipment, maintain storage areas, and support the Facilities team to deliver a high-quality service. Training is provided, with opportunities for development within a busy NHS environment.

Qualifications

• Experience with Bailers/Compactors or specialized waste equipment.
• Ability to follow routine procedures and use own initiative.
• Willingness to undertake on-the-job training and adapt to new practices.
• Ability to interact with colleagues across the organisation and carry out repetitive tasks.
• Experience working to timetables and work schedules.
• Willingness to work within a 7am–8pm rota, Monday to Sunday.

Responsibilities

• Collect and safely transport waste from clinical and non-clinical areas.
• Segregate waste in accordance with policies and regulations.
• Operate waste handling equipment safely and efficiently.
• Maintain cleanliness and order in waste storage areas.
• Support the wider Facilities team to provide a reliable, high-quality service.
