Job summary

Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust is seeking an Environmental Waste Operative to provide a reliable waste collection and portering service across the hospital site. You will work within the Estates and Facilities team to ensure safe, clean, and compliant waste management in accordance with Trust procedures and infection prevention standards.

The role involves handling clinical and non-clinical waste, operating waste equipment and vehicles, and responding to routine and urgent requests.

Responsibilities

• Collect, transport and dispose of clinical, non-clinical and recyclable waste across wards and departments.
• Operate waste equipment including compactors and perform daily vehicle safety checks on waste collection vehicles.
• Respond to routine and urgent waste requests, including sharps and emergency waste containers.
• Maintain waste compounds and external facilities to a high standard of cleanliness, safety and security.
• Handle, segregate and dispose of waste in line with Trust policies and infection prevention requirements.
• Complete records, report incidents and communicate issues to supervisors as required.
• Provide professional, courteous and customer-focused service to patients, visitors and staff.
• Participate in training and follow health and safety and waste procedures to stay competent.
