Job summary

East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a Waste Operative to join the Estates and Facilities team. The role involves removing and transporting waste across our hospitals, with training provided and opportunities to shadow experienced staff.

You will work in a busy, physical environment, ensuring waste is handled safely and in line with trust policies. The job offers varied development opportunities and the chance to contribute to a clean, healthy hospital environment across Lancashire.

Qualifications

• Educated to GCSE standard or equivalent.
• Full UK driving licence.
• First aid course.
• Manual Handling course.
• Previous experience of waste services.
• Proven ability to work without supervision.
• Previous experience of working in a hospital environment.

Responsibilities

• Remove waste using various methods and transfer to the waste station.
• Carry out manual handling and health and safety training as required.
• Shadow and learn from experienced waste operatives during training.
• Communicate with the Portering Supervisor and colleagues about waste flows.
• Collect waste streams from wards/departments and transport it in a professional manner over a 24‑hour period.
