Job summary

2gether Support Solutions Limited in Ashford, Kent, is seeking Ward Catering Assistants to support hospital wards with cleaning, catering and patient services on Saturdays and Sundays 5pm–9pm.

You will be physically fit, provide high standards of cleanliness, take meal orders, follow infection control policies, and work as part of a dedicated team in a busy NHS environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in customer service or catering is advantageous.
• Physically fit to lift, stand and move for extended periods.
• Basic literacy and numeracy required.
• Proficient reading, verbal and written English for effective communication.
• Works in hospital ward environment following infection control policies.

Responsibilities

• Carry out housekeeping, cleaning, catering and patient services.
• Take patient meal orders and distribute meals per dietary needs.
• Respond promptly to patient requests regarding catering and housekeeping.
• Maintain cleanliness of wards, rooms, bathrooms and common areas.
• Ensure proper storage of catering equipment and inventory.
• Follow infection control policies, COSHH and Health and Safety standards.

2gether Support Solutions is a Facilities and Estates services company providing support to healthcare professionals caring for over 2000 patients daily across multiple East Kent hospital sites. 2gether provides vital services including maintenance, cleaning, catering, procurement, logistics and much more.

The Role:

Ward Catering Assistants are the lifeblood of the NHS and an integral part of the team, providing high levels of patient service, cleaning, and catering support within clinical areas. Previous customer service or catering experience would be an advantage. You will provide essential support in maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of the hospital wards and delivering high-quality catering services to patients, ensuring a comfortable and safe environment. This is a part time, permanent position working Saturday and Sunday 5pm - 9pm.

Main duties:

• Carry out housekeeping duties, cleaning, catering and patient services.
• Respond promptly to patient requests and needs regarding catering and housekeeping services.
• Comply with the Trust infection and control policies, COSHH, Health and Safety and other statutory legislation.
• Take patients’ meal orders, Prepare and distribute meals and beverages to patients according to dietary requirements.
• Clean and sanitise patient rooms, bathrooms, and common areas to high standards.
• Ensure cleanliness and proper storage of catering equipment and utensils.
• Assist in managing food stock, including receiving deliveries and maintaining inventory.

You will be physically fit, able to perform tasks requiring lifting, standing, and moving for extended periods. They should have high standards of cleanliness and hygiene with keen attention to detail. Strong teamwork skills, dependability with excellent punctuality, and flexibility to work varying shifts, including weekends and holidays, are essential. Basic literacy and numeracy skills are also required to follow instructions and complete necessary documentation. A proficient level of reading, verbal, and written English is required for this role to ensure effective communication and job performance.
