Job summary

NHS Jobs is seeking a dedicated porter to support wards and departments across the hospital campus. The role involves transporting supplies, delivering and collecting items, and maintaining clean, safe environments.

You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, uphold confidentiality and data protection, follow infection control procedures, and contribute to the smooth running of the unit. This is a hands-on, on-site position requiring reliability and a professional approach to colleagues

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with current good practice in informing/updating MDT and service users of work in progress.
• Maintain confidentiality per data protection act and trust policy.
• Conduct oneself professionally towards colleagues and other agencies.
• Read, understand and comply with relevant departmental/policy procedures.
• Contribute to service/organisational aims and objectives.
• Undertake ad-hoc duties as required by senior Catering Supervisor.
• Adhere to infection control procedures and complete relevant training.
• Deliver and collect pharmacy and controlled drugs from wards.
• Deliver all hot and cold food, dried ambient food items and hospitality requirements.
• Deliver hot/cold food to trust sites daily.
• Collect/deliver clean and dirty linen.
• Order clean linen for the Unit.
• Collect and transport rubbish from wards.
• Unload/load domestic and clinical stores/confidential waste to wards.
• Assist in removal of furniture/goods for wards/departments.
• Deliver/collect/change oxygen/air cylinders to wards.
• Ensure security and upkeep of hospital vehicles/equipment.
• Provide a Portering Service to SSL/Trust Sites.
• Clean front entrance/courtyard areas and manage waste bins.
• Receive food deliveries and ensure safe storage of bread, milk, and fresh/frozen items for Catering.
• Deliver stationery to all departments/wards within the Unit.
• Reinforce infection control awareness and training as required.
