Job summary

Serco Group Plc at Great Western Hospital is seeking a Mechanical Technician to maintain critical mechanical services in a busy acute hospital. The role involves shift work, preventive maintenance and rapid response to plant issues to support patient safety and service continuity.

You will work in a live healthcare environment, maintaining ventilation, heating and associated plant while keeping detailed CAFM records and adhering to safety procedures.

Qualifications

• Completed a recognised mechanical apprenticeship or equivalent structured training with Level 3 qualification (NVQ/City & Guilds) in mechanical engineering, plumbing or building services.
• Demonstrable experience maintaining mechanical building services within regulated environments such as healthcare, commercial or industrial sites.
• Good fault-finding and repair skills across mechanical plant and systems with practical problem-solving ability.

Responsibilities

• Complete planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs, inspections, servicing, fault-finding and testing on mechanical building services.
• Maintain and repair boilers, pumps, heating and chilled water systems, calorifiers and related plant room equipment.
• Support ventilation systems including air handling units and fans, with appropriate controls.
• Respond promptly to plant failures and alarms, escalating risks as needed.
• Record maintenance activity and asset information in CAFM systems with accuracy.
• Work safely with permits, risk assessments and local safe systems of work.
