Job summary

Serco Limited is seeking a Mechanical Technician for Great Western Hospital in Swindon. The role covers maintenance of vital mechanical building services, with a rotating two-week shift pattern and weekend/on-call duties to support hospital operations.

You will contribute to patient safety and operational resilience by maintaining ventilation, heating and associated plant, ensuring uninterrupted healthcare services across a busy acute hospital.

Qualifications

• Recognised mechanical apprenticeship or Level 3 qualification (NVQ/City & Guilds) in mechanical engineering, heating or HVAC.
• Experience maintaining mechanical building services in regulated environments.
• Strong fault-finding and repair skills across mechanical plant and systems.
• Knowledge of safe systems of work and permit-to-work procedures.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventive maintenance, repairs, inspections and testing on mechanical building services.
• Maintain and repair boilers, pumps, heating and chilled water systems, and related plantroom equipment.
• Support ventilation systems, air handling units, exhaust systems and related controls.
• Respond promptly to plant failures, alarms, and interruptions, escalating risks when needed.
• Accurately record maintenance activity and asset information in CAFM system.
• Work safely with permits, risk assessments and healthcare guidance.
