Job summary

Serco is seeking a ward-based support worker at Harplands Hospital, Stoke-on-Trent. The role covers cleaning, catering and general ward assistance to create a pleasant, homely environment for patients. 37.5 hours per week with a pro-rata salary of £25,272, plus Serco benefits.

You will work with a team to maintain cleanliness, hygiene and a safe, welcoming environment, while following infection control and fire safety procedures.

Qualifications

• Good standard of general education.
• Good reading and writing ability.
• Numeracy skills.
• Experience in a customer focus environment.
• Good common sense.
• Able to work with minimum supervision.
• Understanding of maintaining a clean environment.
• Able to communicate clearly with others.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain the work area according to schedules to ensure a safe environment.
• Follow best-practice cleaning and infection control procedures.
• Ensure cleaning equipment is used correctly and inspected for faults.
• Set tables and serve patients with three main meals daily plus drinks/snacks.
• Take temperatures of meals before serving.
• Communicate clearly with patients, visitors and staff.
• Undertake other duties with appropriate training.
• Follow Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and fire safety procedures.
