Job summary

NHS Scotland is seeking a Catering Assistant based at University Hospital Ayr on a fixed-term contract until 31/03/2027. The role sits within the Catering Production and Services Team and involves food preparation, meal service, distribution, wash-up duties and kitchen cleaning in a busy patient meal service environment.

You will work in a large-scale catering setting, with emphasis on safe food handling, timely delivery of patient meals, and collaboration with a busy team; training provided,

Qualifications

• Good communication skills and a flexible approach are essential.
• Experience in catering or food service is advantageous, training provided.
• Food Hygiene knowledge is desirable; if not held, training will be completed within three months.

Responsibilities

• Assist with food preparation, meal service and distribution to patients, staff, visitors and hospitality events.
• Support plating and distribution of patient meals and cleaning of delivery trolleys after meals.
• Maintain food safety standards, assist with cleaning and resetting equipment for next service.
