Job summary

East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a Catering Assistant at Burnley General Teaching Hospital. The role involves preparing and serving meals to patients and staff, maintaining high hygiene standards and supporting the catering team on a 37.5-hour flexi rota that includes some weekends and enhanced payments for weekends/Bank Holidays.

Responsibilities

• Clean premises and equipment to departmental hygiene standards.
• Operate and clean automatic dishwashers.
• Prepare simple food items such as salads, sandwiches and breakfasts.
• Plate and serve meals and beverages to patients and staff.
• Record food temperatures as required by policy.
• Manage ward stock and ensure proper storage and rotation of items.
• Assist with ward beverage trolleys, fridges and vending machines.
• Handle cash and secure takings according to financial instructions.
• Record timesheets, temperatures and waste in required records.
• Communicate with hospital staff and attend regular meetings.
• Support training and development activities as required.
