Job summary

Practice Plus Group in Portsmouth is seeking a skilled Building Services Engineer to join the hospital estates team. You will maintain critical electrical, HVAC and plumbing systems to ensure uninterrupted clinical services.

Responsibilities include PPM, reactive maintenance, BMS monitoring, supervising contractors and ensuring safety compliance across the site. The role involves on-call duties and a commitment to high standards in a regulated healthcare environment.

Qualifications

• Relevant engineering qualifications (e.g. City & Guilds Level 3 and 18th Edition).
• Experience with planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance in building services.
• Knowledge of electrical and HVAC systems and fault diagnosis.

Responsibilities

• Carry out PPM and reactive maintenance across building services and fabric (HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing).
• Inspect, operate and maintain engineering plant and equipment, identify faults and take action to maintain safety and service continuity.
• Complete installation, repair, replacement and minor refurbishment works.
• Use Building Management System (BMS) to monitor and control plant performance and efficiency.
• Support statutory compliance (fire safety, water hygiene, electrical safety, COSHH, asbestos awareness).
• Maintain accurate maintenance records for audits and inspections.
• Manage and supervise contractors on site, including permits-to-work and quality checks.
• Respond to faults, incidents and risks promptly, escalate when safety is impacted.
• Participate in on-call rota for out-of-hours engineering cover.
