Job summary

Rubicon Recruitment Agency is seeking a dedicated Honer to set up and operate honing machines to achieve exact dimensional tolerances and superior surface finishes. You will read drawings, select appropriate tooling, and inspect parts with precision metrology tools in a machine shop environment.

The role requires a strong eye for detail, experience with quality control, and a methodical approach to solving technical challenges while adhering to health and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Proven experience operating honing or precision finishing equipment (essential).
• Experience in a machine shop or precision engineering environment.
• Confident reading engineering drawings and technical specifications.
• Sound knowledge of geometric tolerances and precision measurement techniques.
• A high level of attention to detail and final product quality.
• A methodical approach to problem-solving and health, safety and environmental standards.

Responsibilities

• Setting up and operating honing machines to exact dimensional and surface finish requirements.
• Reading engineering drawings and work instructions to select tooling, fixtures, abrasives and settings.
• Inspecting components with micrometers, bore and air gauges, verniers, dial indicators and surface finish equipment; keeping accurate production and inspection records.
• Identifying and resolving machining or quality issues.
• Carrying out routine machine maintenance and cleaning.

Job description

Precision is the whole job here, and as a Honer you'll be the one delivering it.
You'll bring bores and components to exact tolerances and surface finishes, measured and proven to the micron.
This is a specialist role for someone who takes real pride in getting it right first time.
