Job summary

First Base Employment in Poole, Dorset is seeking a Honer / Lapper for a precision engineering environment. You will operate honing and lapping machines, read drawings, and ensure components meet tight tolerances and finishes. The role demands attention to detail, independent working style, and routine maintenance of equipment. Competitive salary dependent on experience.

Qualifications

Experience operating honing, lapping or precision finishing equipment.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
Experience with micrometers, bore gauges, air gauges, vernier callipers and dial indicators.
Understanding of geometric tolerances and precision measurement.
Strong attention to detail and quality standards.
Good problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently

Responsibilities

Setting up and operating honing and lapping machines.
Machining components to specified dimensions, tolerances and surface finish requirements.
Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications.
Selecting appropriate tooling, fixtures, abrasives and machine settings.
Inspecting components using precision measuring equipment.
Maintaining accurate production and inspection records.
Identifying and resolving machining or quality issues.
Carrying out routine machine maintenance and housekeeping.
