Job summary

West Berkshire Council is seeking a dedicated Homelessness Prevention & Relief Officer to join our Housing Service. You will provide advice and support to individuals and families at risk of homelessness, conduct housing needs assessments, and implement interventions with landlords to secure accommodation.

You will work with external agencies to deliver holistic support, maintain thorough case records, and contribute to prevention initiatives.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of homelessness legislation including the Homelessness Act 2002 and Localism Act 2011.
• Experience in providing advice and support to individuals facing homelessness.
• Strong assessment and intervention skills to address housing needs.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage a caseload effectively.
• Empathy and compassion for clients.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Providing advice, support, and assistance to individuals and families seeking homelessness prevention and relief
• Conducting thorough assessments of housing needs and risks of homelessness
• Implementing appropriate interventions to prevent homelessness, including negotiation with landlords and securing alternative accommodation
• Ensuring accurate and timely recording of case information and maintaining comprehensive files
• Collaborating with external agencies and organisations to provide holistic support to clients
• Contributing to the development and delivery of homelessness prevention initiatives
• Attending court hearings and representing clients when necessary
