Job summary

Monarch Education is seeking an enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) for a Salford secondary school. You will deliver pre-planned lessons, run small-group interventions and support students across Key Stages 3–4, promoting a positive learning environment.

You will reinforce concepts, adapt resources for diverse learners, monitor progress and provide feedback to teachers. DBS checks and right to work in the UK are required.

Qualifications

• HLTA qualification or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or significant experience in a secondary school support role).
• Experience supporting Key Stages 3 and 4, including leading interventions and covering lessons.
• Strong behaviour management and the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff and parents.
• Excellent communication, organisation and classroom management skills.
• Proactive, flexible and resilient approach to supporting teaching and learning.
• Understanding of safeguarding and promoting welfare of children and young people.

Responsibilities

• Deliver pre-planned lessons and lead small group interventions.
• Support students across Key Stages 3–5 where applicable; provide academic, behavioural and pastoral support.

Monarch Education is recruiting an enthusiastic and committed Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a welcoming secondary school in Salford. Working alongside supportive teachers, pastoral staff, and school leaders, you will play a key role in supporting students’ academic progress, personal development, and overall success.

As an HLTA, you will deliver planned learning activities to individuals, small groups, and whole classes, helping to create an engaging and inclusive learning environment where all students can thrive. You will work across a range of subject areas, supporting pupils of varying abilities and helping them to build confidence, resilience, and independence in their learning.

The successful candidate will support teaching and learning by reinforcing key concepts, adapting resources to meet individual needs, and providing targeted intervention where required. You will monitor student progress, provide constructive feedback, and work collaboratively with teachers to ensure all learners are supported in reaching their full potential.

A key aspect of the role will involve promoting positive behaviour, encouraging student engagement, and helping to maintain a safe and productive classroom environment. You may also be required to cover lessons in the absence of teaching staff, delivering pre-planned work and ensuring continuity of learning.

The Role

• Support teaching and learning across the school by delivering pre-planned lessons, leading small group interventions, and providing targeted support to students to help them achieve their full potential.
• Work with students across Key Stages 3 and 4 (and Key Stage 5 where applicable), providing academic, behavioural, and pastoral support to ensure positive engagement with learning and successful outcomes.
• Adapt learning activities and resources to meet the needs of pupils with varying abilities, including those with SEND, EAL, and additional learning needs, ensuring all students can access the curriculum and make progress.
• Create and maintain a positive, inclusive, and well-managed learning environment that promotes confidence, independence, resilience, and a positive attitude towards learning.
• Monitor, assess, and record student progress, providing feedback to teaching staff and supporting the delivery of targeted interventions to improve attainment, attendance, and engagement.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, SEND staff, parents, and school leaders to support student wellbeing, contribute to effective classroom practice, and help drive positive educational outcomes across the school.
• Provide classroom cover for teacher absences where required, delivering pre-set work, managing behaviour effectively, and ensuring continuity of learning.
• Support the implementation of school policies, safeguarding procedures, and behaviour expectations, helping to create a safe and supportive environment for all students.

Essential Requirements

• HLTA qualification, Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or significant experience working in a secondary school support role.
• Experience supporting students across Key Stages 3 and 4, including delivering interventions, leading small group sessions, and covering lessons where required.
• Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
• Excellent communication, organisation, and classroom management skills.
• A proactive, flexible, and resilient approach to supporting teaching and learning.
• Good understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
• Experience supporting students with SEND, SEMH, or additional learning needs is desirable.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
• Right to work in the UK.
