Teaching Personnel Ltd, a leading education recruitment specialist, is supporting a welcoming primary school in Southport to recruit a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) from January 2027. The role covers delivery of pre-planned lessons across EYFS to KS2 when the Class Teacher is absent, ensuring continuity of learning and pupil progress.

The successful candidate will have HLTA status (or equivalent), strong English and maths skills, and a proven ability to lead interventions.

Qualifications

  • HLTA status or equivalent qualification.
  • GCSE English and Maths (C/4 or above).
  • Level 4 HLTA qualification is desirable.
  • Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent is desirable.
  • Experience in primary school environments and understanding of the Primary National Curriculum.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver pre-planned lessons across EYFS, KS1 and KS2 in the absence of the class teacher.
  • Support planning and delivery of engaging learning activities.
  • Lead small-group and one-to-one interventions to support pupil progress.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Provide additional support for pupils with SEND and those needing targeted interventions.
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive school ethos.

Teaching Personnel are pleased to be supporting a welcoming and nurturing primary school in Southport in their search for a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their team from January 2027.

This small primary school prides itself on its close-knit community, strong relationships with families and commitment to ensuring every child feels valued and supported. The successful candidate will play a key role in helping pupils thrive academically, socially and emotionally, working alongside a passionate team of staff who are committed to delivering an outstanding educational experience.

As a HLTA, you will:

  • Deliver pre-planned lessons across EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 in the absence of the class teacher.
  • Support the planning and delivery of engaging learning activities.
  • Lead small-group and one-to-one interventions to support pupil progress.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Provide additional support for pupils with SEND and those requiring targeted interventions.
  • Contribute to the positive, inclusive and supportive ethos of the school.
Essential
  • HLTA Status or an equivalent qualification.
  • GCSE Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.
  • Previous experience working within a primary school environment.
  • Confidence leading whole-class learning independently.
  • Good understanding of the Primary National Curriculum.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Desirable
  • Level 4 HLTA qualification.
  • Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting children with SEND, including autism, SEMH or speech and language needs.
  • Training in phonics programmes such as Little Wandle, Read Write Inc. or Sounds-Write.
  • Paediatric First Aid qualification.
  • Safeguarding and child protection training.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.
