Job summary

University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust seeks a Medical Laboratory Assistant to join the Histopathology team at Southmead Hospital. No prior experience required; full training provided.

You will support sampling, data entry, and tissue processing, progressing from Band 2 with training to Band 3 after six months. You will need at least 4 GCSEs including English, Maths and Science, plus good IT and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Four GCSEs (or equivalent) including English, Maths and Science
• Good IT and keyboard skills
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Good communication and organisational skills

Responsibilities

• Receive and book specimens onto laboratory systems
• Input data to laboratory computer systems
• Assist Pathologists and Biomedical Scientists with slide prep and tissue processing
• Maintain and organise laboratory records and filing
• Prepare tissue samples for testing and examination
• Assist with maintenance of laboratory equipment and cleanliness
• Support with digital imaging and slide scanning activities
• Ensure samples are processed accurately to support patient diagnosis and care
