Job summary

Sanger seeks a Staff Scientist on a fixed-term basis to lead histology and spatial transcriptomics wet‑lab work in Hinxton. You will oversee sample prep, embedding, sectioning, and image analysis while guiding a team across Institute projects and collaborations.

You will train staff, supervise PhD students, and help shape SOPs and data interpretation, contributing to publications and high‑impact science in human development research.

Qualifications

• PhD in Biology, Biomedical, or related field with strong histology experience.
• Expertise in histology and histopathology with tissue processing skills.
• Experience using image analysis tools and advanced software.
• Proven ability to train others and lead projects with publications.
• Excellent communication and collaborative skills; detail-oriented.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily wet-lab work for histology and spatial transcriptomics pipelines.
• Coordinate with the Vento team and Institute-wide projects.
• Provide histology expertise and supervise image analysis efforts.
• Develop and review SOPs, risk assessments, and project targets.
• Supervise PhD students and postdocs; contribute to publications.
