Job summary

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting an Associate Practitioner for Histopathology in the SYB Pathology Partnership. You will work in specimen dissection, preparation and processing, and perform tinctorial staining and immunohistochemistry.

The role requires a Level 4 qualification or Foundation Degree, and extensive lab experience within NHS settings; strong IT skills and attention to COSHH are essential.

Qualifications

• Level 4 qualification (e.g. NVQ, HNC, BTEC, Apprenticeship) or IBMS Certificate of Achievement (Part II) plus extensive laboratory experience.
• Foundation Level Degree as alternative.
• Experience with a range of laboratory techniques and NHS laboratory environment.
• Good IT and keyboard skills; understand basic COSHH and safety.

Responsibilities

• Operate histology equipment safely and accurately.
• Embed surgical specimens into paraffin wax per protocol.
• Section paraffin material per protocol.
• Apply tinctorial staining techniques and immunohistochemistry.
• Orientate, photograph, and archive specimens.
• Handle reagents including formalin; prepare SOP-based solutions.
